5/6S

Hello and welcome to Class 5/6S’ page!

I am Miss Smith and I am the class teacher in our class. We are also very lucky to have the wonderful Miss Dignan and Miss Prescott supporting us too.

Here in Year 5/6S, we learn about some interesting topics aimed to enrich your child’s learning. This year our learning will take us on an adventure through space and zoom back in time to the period of the ‘Anglo Saxons.’ Children will also take part in more creative activities during our Art and DT lessons and learn about a variety of music styles and their origins. To help understand how we grow, we will discover important changes within our bodies as we hit puberty.

Reading is also very important to us in 5/6S, and we aim to provide all children with opportunities to develop a love of reading through whole class reading read, inspirational author visits and the chance to become a Reading Ambassador for our school. Children will also access ‘Accelerated Reader’ where they complete quizzes to help ensure they develop knowledge and understanding of the texts that they have read.

For the Year 6’s, they will have fun while they face new challenges on their trip to PGL and completing their bike ability sessions. Also, they will be guided through the preparation process for SATs, having lots of opportunities to complete practice papers to become familiar with the assessment process. Although, for many children, this can be a daunting time, rest assured, we will be on hand to support the children (and parents) through every aspect of ‘SATs’. You can help your child at home by ensuring they read regularly and practice their Times Tables to keep their knowledge of the facts fresh.

For the year 5's, they will have the chance to take on new responsibilities and take part in different enrichment opportunities.

All the children have access to Purple Mash, where activities will be set weekly to enhance every child's learning experiences.

Finally, we want to share as much of our learning with you as we can to share in their success. Please keep a close eye on our Class Dojo Story and click ‘Follow’ on our Twitter page so you can see what the children get up to throughout each week.
